You know you lead a boring life when you can't wait until tomorrow to try a new tomato basil soup recipe. I really think I need a hobby.
Had to take the van to the shop again today. I knew the second I typed "All in all I would say that 2006 kicked ass" I was asking for trouble, and in this house trouble seems to come with large dollar signs attached. Luckily, this time it didn't cost a thing. It pays to have a mechanic that knows you, although it is sad that after living somewhere for only seven months, I have a mechanic that knows me. Basically, the check engine light came on, and the computer said it was an "emissions leaking" problem. Not sure what, but it is fixed. And you can thank me for contributing to the global warming that is causing the mild winter. You're welcome.
Managed to get some shopping done today. Clothes shopping with Christian and Ethan ranks right up there with a root canal, believe me. Christian doesn't like *anything* and Ethan likes *everything.*
I also picked up a guitar for Ethan, for pretty darn cheap. Both Ethan and Alex want to learn to play guitar, and our policy is that when they want to try something new we do it the super cheap way, until we know it is something they are going to stick with. My mom got Alex a guitar for his birthday and I bought a Wal-Mart guitar on clearance for $20. A few days after Christmas I got 2 guitar stands for $7 each on clearance at Wal-Mart, so we haven't invested much. There are a few more things they need, but I have no idea what.
More confirmation came today that Marty's mom is a whack job, in the form of an email. I won't go into details, but suffice it to say the woman is nuts and I am tired of dealing with her. There, I said it.
Just because I know someone will ask:
Tomato-basil Soup
In food processor or blender, puree 1 can of tomatoes (whole, diced, with basil if you can find it), 1/2 onion and 1 clove garlic. Place in pot and add 1 cup chicken broth. Cook 10 minutes. Stir in 1 Tablespoon of lemon juice and 1/4 cup of fresh basil or 1 Tablespoon of dried basil.
I will let you know how it turns out.

Soup sounds yummy; was it? I might have to try that tomorrow for MY lunch.
It was really good!Nice and "fresh" tasting. I have made it a few times since, adding various things - a tiny bit of Parmigiano Reggiano, cooked orzo... even tortellini.
